Aosta Valley, Mont Blanc and the Royal Palace of Turin (3 days)

1st day: CASTLE OF FENIS – AOSTA

Departure early in the morning. Arrival in Fénis and guided tour of the Castle, a true medieval icon, which stands out for its extraordinary architecture and the evocative power of its towers and crenellated walls. Free lunch. In the afternoon guided tour of Aosta founded by the Romans in 25 BC. with the name of Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, of which several important monuments remain: the Arch of Augustus, the Porta Pretoria, the theatre, the forensic cryptoporticus, the walls almost entirely preserved. You will also see the medieval testimonies with the Collegiate Church of Sant’Orso with the early Christian basilica of San Lorenzo. Transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

2nd day: SKYWAY MONTE BIANCO – PONT D’AEL

Breakfast. In the morning, meeting with the guide and transfer to Pontal d’Entrèves for the ascent to Punta Helbronner, with the modern Skyway Monte Bianco cable car inaugurated in May 2015 (return trip by cable car excluded).

At Punta Helbronner the view of Mont Blanc is assured thanks to the panoramic terrace located at 3466 meters above sea level overlooking the endless Vallée Blanche and the town of Courmayeur. The gaze is lost between seracs and granite towers with pastel shades. On the horizon the famous “4000” of Europe: Grand Combin, Matterhorn, Monte Rosa and the Gran Paradiso. The booths are equipped with a system that allows visitors to rotate on themselves, so visitors can enjoy a 360 ° view of all the areas crossed. At the Punta Helbronner station, you can also visit the “Crystals” room which houses the permanent exhibition of Mont Blanc crystals and the “Mont Blanc” room, one of a kind: a real snapshot, a huge window overlooking the massif of Europe, the giant of the Alps shows itself in all its extraordinary grandeur and beauty.

Free lunch. In the afternoon, guided tour of Pont d’Ael: a Roman-era aqueduct-bridge over the Grand-Eyvia stream. It is a grandiose work of masonry and blocks of cut stone, about 56 meters high and more than 50 long.

Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

3rd day: TURIN PALAZZO REALE

Breakfast. In the morning transfer to Turin and guided tour of the Royal Palace in Piazza San Castello. Continue in the historic centre admiring the majestic Palazzo Madama, Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Carignano where the homonymous building dominates with its splendid wavy facade. At the end of the visit, you will have time to have lunch freely and stroll under the Art Nouveau Subalpina Gallery, savour Bicerin, a drink made with milk cream, coffee and Piedmont hazelnut chocolate. In the afternoon return trip with arrival in the evening.

Day 1: CASTLE OF FENIS – CHATILLON – SAINT DENIS

In the afternoon, a guided tour of Chatillon where the castle of the same name is located and the village of Saint-Denis where the Castle of Cli stands out. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: AOSTA

Breakfast. Day 3: GRAN PARADISO NATIONAL PARK – COGNE

Breakfast. Full day guided tour of the Gran Paradiso National Park, the first national park established in Italy in 1922, which covers 70,000 hectares of territory. Free lunch. In the afternoon transfer to Lillaz and visit the famous waterfalls which can be reached following an almost flat path. The falls consist of three jumps of water from the Urtier stream for a total of 150 meters in height. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: FORTE DI BARD – DONNAS

Breakfast. In the morning guided tour of the Bard Fortress, “historical route”. You will learn about the history of the Fort and the other Alpine fortresses thanks to the models, films and maps of the time on the first floor of the Museum of Borders and Fortifications. You will also have the opportunity to touch the ancient materials and some original architectural elements, such as floors, masonry and the drawbridge itself. Continue outside along the panoramic elevators and part of the walkways for an overall view of the structure, the architectural volumes and the suggestive surrounding landscape. The visit continues inside the Prisons of the Fort with the original cells. Stop for free lunch in the characteristic village. On the way back, a short photo stop in the village of Donnas, of great importance in the Roman Empire for the transit to the Gauls. A return trip with arrival scheduled in the evening.

Basilicata and the Cilento Coast (6 days)

Day 1: Benevento

Departure very early in the morning. Free lunch along the way. In the late afternoon, I arrive in Benevento for a walk in the historic centre which houses the ancient ruins: the Arch of Trajan, the Rocca Dei Rectors, the Roman Theater and the Cathedral.

Continue to the hotel, dinner and night.

 

Day 2: Melfi – Venosa

Breakfast and travel to Melfi where we will take a guided tour of the city and its castle. Emperor Frederick II of Swabia chose the Norman-Swabian castle as his summer residence and practised falconry in the Vulture forests. Free lunch and transfer for a guided tour of Venosa, home of the Latin poet Quinto Orazio Flacco and the Renaissance madrigalist Carlo Gesualdo Di Venosa, is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Continue to the hotel, dinner and night.

 

Day 3: Matera and Murgia Park

Breakfast and transfer to Matera and day of visit with a local guide. In the morning we start with the Murgia Matera Park with the amazing panoramic view of the Rione Sassi and the rupestrian church of Madonna Delle Tre. Continue with the Rioni Sassi making photo stops. Stop for free lunch. In the afternoon we move on to the medieval area of ​​Matera with the Cathedral Basilica, the Sasso Barisano, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the rupestrian church of the Santo Spirito and the churches of San Domenico and Cavalieri di Malta. In the evening dinner and overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 4: Metaponto – Craco

Breakfast. Guided tour day. It starts with Metaponto, in particular, the Archaeological Museum and the Archaeological Park. Metapontum means “Between two rivers”, the Bradano and the Basento, in the heart of Magna Graecia, in the brilliant and boundless Ionian coast. Symbol of the ancient Greek city are the imposing and fascinating Palatine Tables remains of the Temple of Hera. Free lunch. Day 5: Certosa Di San Lorenzo – Cilento Coast

Day 6: Paestum

Breakfast and guided tour of the Archaeological site of Paestum: the Temple of Ceres, the Temple of Neptune and the Basilica. The three Greek temples of Paestum – Unesco heritage – are, together with those of Athens and Agrigento, the best-preserved Templar buildings from the classical age. A return trip with free lunch along the way. Arrival expected in the late evening.
