Day 1: Conero Park and Ancona
Departure early in the morning. Arrival in Ancona for free lunch. Visit the Cathedral of San Ciriaco in Ancona, a medieval church in which the Romanesque style blends with the Byzantine one, which rises in a scenic position at the top of the Guasco hill, already occupied by the Acropolis of the Greek-Doric city, from where it dominates the whole city of Ancona and its gulf. Continue with the panoramic excursion in the Conero Park, a protected area established in 1987, with photo stops in Numana and Sirolo. Transfer to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Fabriano Paper Museum – Frasassi Caves
Breakfast and transfer to Fabriano for the guided tour of the Paper and Watermark Museum, housed in the monumental complex of the former Dominican Convent, recently restored and represents the image of seven hundred years of local paper tradition. The Museum is divided into sections, which from the hand-making of paper and the relative use of the artefact, pass to the exhibition of watermarks, with information on the techniques to obtain them, to the visualization of the historical journey of paper, to the stages of development of this art in the land of Fabriano, its manufacturing processes and related technology, through historical-thematic documents and cards. In the end, we continue with a visit to the historic centre of the city that gave birth to the great painter Gentile da Fabriano at the Palazzo del Podestà, Portico Dei Vasari, Oratorio Della Carità, etc.
Free lunch and transfer to Genga for a guided tour of the Frasassi Caves, of karst origin within the Gola Della Rossa and Frasassi Regional Natural Park. The discovery of the caves dates back to 1971 thanks to the speleological group of the CAI of Ancona. Inside the karst cavities, you can admire natural sculptures formed by calcareous stratifications over 190 million years thanks to the work of water and rock. The water, flowing on the limestone, dissolves small amounts of limestone and falling to the ground, in the course of a dripping that lasts millennia, deposits them and forms concretions of considerable size: stalactites and stalagmites. In the end, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
