The history of the Abbey is that of a cultural stronghold from which, together with Catholicism, the art, language and values of a new civilization spread thanks to the tenacious work of the descendants of St. Benedict who, first, with a few companions he reached the Acropolis of the ancient Casinum on which there were numerous pagan temples. The Saint transformed the Temple of Apollo into an Oratory dedicated to San Martino, while on the top of a mountain, where the sacrificial altar was located, he erected another Oratory dedicated to San Giovanni Battista, which became the first nucleus of the current Basilica. Continue to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Beauty is undoubtedly its trump card, but history has also left its traces on this strip of land. But Ponza is not just the sea. The island has been inhabited since the time of the Romans and by the Greeks before them. The remains of the past are clearly visible and it is wonderful to discover them one by one.
