Matera in flight (3 days)

Day 1: The Trulli of Alberobello

Boarding from Orio al Serio / Malpensa airport and flight to Bari. Free lunch. In the afternoon guided tour of Alberobello.

In the heart of the Murgia Dei Trulli, a lovely expanse of pinnacles announces Alberobello, with its characteristic historic centre, a World Heritage Site. The heart of the town is entirely made up of Trulli, the original dry-stone houses, whitewashed with quicklime and with a cone-shaped roof made of exposed stone. Crosses, pierced hearts and zodiac symbols decorate the roof of each Trullo, which preserves its mystery intact. Transfer to the hotel, dinner and overnight.

 

Day 2: Castel Del Monte – Matera

Breakfast. In the morning guided tour of Castel del Monte built at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century which dominates, with its massive octagonal structure, the small stretch of the western Murge. Universally considered a brilliant example of medieval architecture, Castel del Monte actually combines different stylistic elements, from the Romanesque cut of the lions at the entrance to the gothic frame of the towers, from the classical art of the interior friezes to the defensive structure of architecture up to the delicate refinements of its mosaics. Transfer to Matera and free lunch. In the afternoon, guided tour of the European Capital of Culture 2019 and UNESCO World Heritage city, with its Sassi and its beauties. The spectacle of the Sassi, Caveoso and Barisano is also accompanied by the beauty of the Cathedral, which stands in the centre of the Civita up to the numerous rock churches, about 150, traces of monasticism. Return to hotel for dinner and overnight.

 

Day 3: Bari

Breakfast and transfer to Bari for the guided tour. To the north extends Bari Vecchia, the historic centre, which occupies a tiny peninsula between the Porto Vecchio and Porto Grande. To the south lies the Murattiano district, the heart of the modern city, characterized by an orderly checkerboard layout with a beautiful waterfront and elegant shopping streets. Old Bari is a suggestive maze of narrow and irregular alleys that define an area of ​​modest size. Among the most important sacred buildings, the Cathedral of San Sabino and the Basilica of San Nicola stand out. Free lunch. At the end, transfer to the airport by private bus. Matera, Alberobello and Ostuni (5 days)

 

Day 1: Rimini – Puglia

Early morning departure for Puglia with a stop in Rimini Marina Centro for free lunch. Arrival at the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Castel Del Monte – Matera

Breakfast. In the morning guided tour of Castel del Monte which, built at the behest of Frederick II of Swabia in the 13th century, dominates the small stretch of the western Murge with its massive octagonal structure, and is a priceless masterpiece of Italian history. In the afternoon guided tour of Alberobello and the famous Trulli, characteristic cone constructions. Day 4: Lecce – Ostuni

Breakfast and transfer to Lecce for the guided tour of the Baroque city: an open-air museum, where you can admire the Renaissance architecture and the richness of the Baroque with palaces, masks, friezes, pinnacles and rose windows, churches and balconies, alleys and squares make this city a treasure chest. Free lunch. In the afternoon guided tour of Ostuni also known as the White City, due to its characteristic historic centre in the past, it was entirely painted with white lime. Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Pescara

Breakfast and return trip. Stop in Pescara centre for free lunch on the seafront. Arrival expected in the late evening.

Day 1: Benevento

Departure very early in the morning. Free lunch along the way. In the late afternoon, I arrive in Benevento for a walk in the historic centre which houses the ancient ruins: the Arch of Trajan, the Rocca Dei Rectors, the Roman Theater and the Cathedral.

Day 2: Melfi – Venosa

Breakfast and travel to Melfi where we will take a guided tour of the city and its castle. Emperor Frederick II of Swabia chose the Norman-Swabian castle as his summer residence and practised falconry in the Vulture forests. Free lunch and transfer for a guided tour of Venosa, home of the Latin poet Quinto Orazio Flacco and the Renaissance madrigalist Carlo Gesualdo Di Venosa, is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Continue to the hotel, dinner and night.

 

Day 3: Matera and Murgia Park

Breakfast and transfer to Matera and day of visit with a local guide. In the morning we start with the Murgia Matera Park with the amazing panoramic view of the Rione Sassi and the rupestrian church of Madonna Delle Tre. Continue with the Rioni Sassi making photo stops. Stop for free lunch. In the afternoon we move on to the medieval area of ​​Matera with the Cathedral Basilica, the Sasso Barisano, Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the rupestrian church of the Santo Spirito and the churches of San Domenico and Cavalieri di Malta. Day 4: Metaponto – Craco

Breakfast. Guided tour day. It starts with Metaponto, in particular, the Archaeological Museum and the Archaeological Park. Metapontum means “Between two rivers”, the Bradano and the Basento, in the heart of Magna Graecia, in the brilliant and boundless Ionian coast. Symbol of the ancient Greek city are the imposing and fascinating Palatine Tables remains of the Temple of Hera. Free lunch. Day 5: Certosa Di San Lorenzo – Cilento Coast
